PAS 7: The Invisible Man

The Butterfly Reader : Pink Sticky Stars

Now this movie is rated R and categorized as a horror movie, but in my personal opinion I think it has its scary moment but is overall creepy and just plain disturbing once you figure out the plot of the movie. “The Invisible Man” was released in 2020 and was directed by Leigh Whannell. The Invisible Man (2020 film) - Wikipedia

In the beginning of the movie, we see the main character Cecilia, played by Elisabeth Moss, running/escaping her abusive boyfriend. She leaves all her belongings and her old life behind, even her dog :((, and begins a new life. After finding out that her now ex-boyfriend committed a suicide, she begins to believe it was all a lie. Before she left, her boyfriend, who was a crazed scientist, was working on a project that allowed himself to turn invisible. After months of unexplained happenings, she realized that he is using his power to become invisible to stalk and terrorize her. When the police refuse to believe her story, she decides to take matters into her own hands and fight back.

Now, while the plot is fascinating and new, it is still kind of confusing. I have many questions, like what made him want to create an invisible suit in the first place? Was it for the reason of terrorizing people? Because that is the first thing is decides to do once it is created. Wouldn’t you want to do other things with new found technology that YOU created?? Second, once Cecilia escapes, she goes and stays at a “friend’s” house instead of with her sister, but we never really find out why she doesn’t just stay with family. We know that she has problems with her sister, but why?

Just the idea that his man is not only spying on his ex-girlfriend but also terrorizing her makes me feel more sympathetic than scared. Plus the 2 hour movie does not start to get interesting until around half way in. Boringggg.
