Welcome to Rhetoric and Civic Life! I am the author of this blog and my name is Katherine (Katie) Lewandowski. I am a business major from northeast, PA, where I went to a small high school. I was involved in many activities and I hope some of you will find a commonality! I was involved in business and science competitions, as well as a summer program in which groups would create their own product and company and do various projects and presentations. Also, I was a school ambassador and a member of the cheerleading team, prom committee, and Interact Club. I am an outgoing person and enjoy spending time with friends!
The blog works in conjunction with the course, Rhetoric and Civic Life, to expand upon the skills learned and ideas shared in class about rhetoric, which is an art form enabling people to express thoughts or persuade others. It is exhibited through multiple forms of language, such as written, oral, or visual, which will all be explored throughout the course. The concepts shared through the use of rhetoric involves civic life, which includes past and present social issues, as well as various public affairs.
The blog has two components, a RCL blog thread and a Passion (PAS) blog thread. The RCL thread is prompted posts about current topics covered in class, especially pertinent topics to the current state of affairs in the world. The PAS thread will allow each author to choose a topic they want to share and continue to expand on that topic throughout the entire thread. I have decided to focus my PAS blog on analyzing various movies and TV shows. Not only will there be a descriptive overview, but also I will showcase important topics or elements, give pros and cons, and give a review from the point of view of an eighteen-year-old college student. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the blog!
