Fashion

For some reason I have always been attracted to the hippie sense of style. I’ve also realized how a lot of those trends have come back over the past couple of years. For this week’s blog I decided to talk about one of the more exciting topics….FASHION! In particularly how the hippie fashion has influenced what is in style today (for girls). I’m not really big on following trends, but I noticed that what I’ve always liked is known to be trendy today. What normally dressing up was like in the 60s-70s, today it is known as “bohemian.” The bohemian sense of style includes headbands and more specifically with flowers and also a lot of high wasted jeans and shorts. The colors worn are varied but usually tend to be softer tones rather than neon or black. My mom used to tell me how she would wear a lot of flared jeans, which is awesome because I own two pairs back at home and I’m obsessed with them. I think the flared jeans/pants are one of the fashion statements that are most associated with hippies due to the media and how they have been portrayed. It does make sense because when you search “hippie fashion” on Google you will see a lot of girls wearing what some people call “hippie pants” or maxi skirts (long skirts) and such. Also in movies relating to hippies, you will notice that the girls were a lot of long skirts and flared pants. But I think todays fashion sense has turned some of the more tacky outfits of the 70s trendier. For example one of my favorite stores, Free People is mostly based on a bohemian kind of style that has been influenced by hippie fashion. Below I posted a picture out of a free people catalog and a picture of Steve Nicks. You can see the similarities between the outfits where the clothes are very flowy, and even though the outfits are colorful the colors tend to be of a softer tone.

You have great style that definately channels the hippie ideals. I wish I was better at choosing clothes that resemble the hippy still, but as it is I can’t get my grip around it quite yet, I need more practice! I love everything Free People too, I should definately try and get some practice in there. I got a Free People sweater for Christmas that I love, but it happens to be about an inch think of solid wool, i.e. I will drown in my own sweat if I wear it on a day that isn’t below 2 degrees. Keep up the good work!:)

Dude I got a catalogue from that store earlier this year, and it seems way cool.
Alas, I am cheap but whatevs a girl can dream. I also like the fashion that is cropping up these days, though not necessarily crop tops (they are outsourcing all my favorite types of tops) all I can say is you can’t have hippie without ‘hip'(ster)
