Today I’m going to be focusing on track 4 “Must Be Love” a song that pulls at every single heart string of mine. Which is allegedly the second part of “Haunted”. I swear, every time I choose a song to blog about, I find myself connecting with the song at a deeper level, if that makes any sense.
Verse one, opens up the narrator saying has a feeling that the world is playing a joke on her because she fell in love with someone “foolishly”. Then goes on to say traffic doesn’t faze me bc I’m a composed person yet somehow, I lose my front, that I put up around others, when I’m with you. Personally, I view this as a huge step in a relationship, someone who lets you be the true you can be incredible but also devastating.
“I’m all in, I’m fallin’. Can’t get back up. Can’t think right, too tongue-tied. It must be love”. The chorus displays the narrator’s infatuation with this guy is so great to the point that she’s so in love to the point she can’t get back up. The depth of this relation is so deep that she doesn’t want it to end, like an endless abyss. However, every abyss has an end, endless or not.
Which leads back to verse to which describes how the world around the narrator has changed since falling in love with the guy. She’s so tangled up in his love to the point she’s lost and now away from her friends, as she’s “losin’ hours in his (your) eyes”. She wants to stay in this magical wonderland she finds in his eyes. The comfort of the mystery and magic in this imaginary world is what she craves. This guy makes her feel sappy, something she never thought she’d ever feel or be.
“I’m all in, I’m fallin’ Can’t get back up. Can’t think right, too tongue-tied. Come kiss me, convince me. This must be, it must be love. (Must be love)” The final chorus is shaky, almost in a fearful way. The fear that she’s going to lose it all unless she’s comforted by the kiss of the guy so that she will be certain this love is real and that she won’t be ripped out of the comfort of his wonderland, she sees within his eyes.
I agree that the lyrics to this song are strong in portraying the feeling of being in love. I think that Laufey does well with enunciating how she feels. I also think it does make sense to connect more with the song the longer you read it.
I really enjoy Laufey’s voice. It is very smooth and clear. This song is very beautiful and definitely relates to the anxiety you might feel while falling in love.
