Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, and Yoda are all in support of protecting the environment. In this clever and thoughtful post, the creators make a play on words with a famous Star Wars quote, “may the force be with you.” In the film, the force was a pure and natural source for the Jedi’s power, much like the forests are a pure and natural resource for us.

There have been a stream of wildfires throughout California and now in the Amazon Rainforest. Citizens of the United States are calling for better protection of our natural resources. This bumper sticker targets viewers of the Star Wars series. Star Wars was famous in the late 70’s to the early 80’s, which targets an audience that is grown and can control their impact on the environment. Additionally, there have been numerous additions to the Star Wars trilogy since the 80’s, which allows this bumper sticker to connect to a much younger audience as well. This bumper sticker will reach a wide audience with its simple message: protect our forests.

In Star Wars, Jedi’s typically say “may the force be with you” to other Jedi’s when they are going to face something dangerous. We are facing danger now. We face the risk of deforestation and the effects that it has on climate change. Our natural resources are dwindling, and the time is now to protect them. Sadly, this bumper sticker does not do a good job conveying the urgency. The bumper sticker’s short and sweet slogan allows for a simple message to be expressed, but there is no emotion behind it. However, this bumper sticker is being produced at a pivotal time for environmental activists as the wildfires are progressing. I think the bumper sticker was effective in reaching out to a wide range of age groups and communicating a clear message, but it was ineffective in communicating the depths of the issue. I hope that there are more steps being taken to protect the environment and our natural resources.
