TopGolf

Does anyone out there like to golf? What about play skeeball or throw darts? Well if you said yes to both these questions, TopGolf is the sport for you.  TopGolf was invented by World Golf Systems which is a British company located north of London.  It is a driving range, usually double or triple decker, where players drive golf balls into giant holes in the ground.  These aren’t just normal holes or normal balls though.

Each hole/target is broken down into divisions where a player will shoot the ball and the closer he lands the ball to the pin the more points he/she will get.  Now how do you know how many points you get? Don’t worry, each golf ball has a microchip inside of it that tells you how many points you’ve earned.  It also tells you how far you’ve hit it, so you can become familiar with your clubs and know which clubs to use when you actually play golf.  TopGolf utilizes the I.D. Ball System, which allows the golfers to see their scores, distance, and even handicaps.  The I.D. Ball System includes the microchip ball, the targets, monitor screens which track the ball, and ball dispensers that gives the ball to the player.

Each bay contains its own game screen which provides instant shot and distance feedback.           TopGolf features two levels of bays where you can have your food and drinks delivered while you play.       Shoot at over 11 different targets throughout the outfield.

This is great technology, because it is the first of it’s kind.  What other sport is played using microchips or any other kind of computer device for that matter?  Not to mention it makes golf more fun and exciting.  The only problem is that it costs a ton of money to make, which is why there are only 8 in the world (5 in the United States).  I have been fortunate enough to play at two TopGolf locations in the United States, and I must say, from first-hand experience, it still amazes me how it works.
