Mind Maps

When creating an idea of any type, whether it be writing an essay or designing a product, one of the best things to do to get started is create a mind map.  This is also commonly known as brainstorming or making a web.  It is a device that will help with the organization of the overall product.

“A mind map is a diagram used to visually outline information.”  It is a compilation of ideas that are revolved around a single subject.  For example, in my EDESIGN class we have to redesign the smartphone to make appealing and we had to come up with new ideas.  So, we created a mind map with “Smartphone” being the subject and four subcategories labelled Durability, Battery, Camera, and User Compatibility.  Then, each subcategory has a list of ideas that could help to improve that aspect of the Smartphone.

As you can see, a mind map is a great organizational device to use when developing a new idea.  It gives you list where you can just keep writing down good ideas and cross off bad ones.  “Mind maps are a visual thinking tool that helps structuring information, helping you to better analyze, comprehend, synthesize, recall and generate new ideas.”  Basically, it is really helpful when it comes to brainstorming and should be used by everyone involved with creating new ideas.
