The dance scene is continuing to bubble with excitement. September marks the beginning of a new dance season for dancers across the U.S. Studio’s all across the country are beginning choreography for the year, and classes are beginning to be in full swing. After a successful run at the dance awards, It’s exciting to keep up with the dance studios who will indubitably do well this year. Larkin Dance studio produced some top 10 dancers and successful group dances at the awards. Project 21 will be a studio to watch again, of course. This new studio has been storming the dance scene for its 2 short seasons, and is sure to continue to take some major wins this season. Dance Mechanics, my home studio in Pittsburgh, is certain to produce more winning numbers this year. Its pre professional teams are packed with talent, that will be hard to miss throughout the season. A spotlight dancer who has been exciting to watch the past year and summer is star dancer, Jaxon Willard. Willard was a fierce competitor at the 2017 and 2018 dance awards, but his enormous success was not from the major dance competition. It was through an even more popular, televised dance competition, known as World of Dance, that is on NBC Wednesday nights. Willard made his debut with an emotional contemporary piece and has managed to stay in the fierce competition all season, and as the show draws to a close, his potential to win is growing greater and greater. Another important part of the current dance scene is this show. Although regional studios and competitions make up the bigger part of my dance knowledge, it’s also important to note the international competitions, such as World of Dance, that brings people from all over the world to one stage to compete in “The Worlds Biggest Dance Competition.” This week, as the cuts continue, we’re down to twelve acts, that includes the incredible hip-hop and contemporary duo Sean and Kaycee, lyrical duo Charity and Andres, Brazilian couple-turned-unrivaled ballroom dancers, Karen Y Ricardo, and many more amazing groups and duos battling for the prize of one million dollars. Tonight brings more cuts, and viewers will watch on to see whether or not their favorites make the cut or not. Finally, in dance news, which I will cover in greater detail next week, is the announcement of Dancing with the Stars: Juniors, which is a twist on this long running classic show. Instead of pro’s paired up with your favorite celebrities, the new season, premiering October 7th on ABC will star pre-teen and teenage “pro’s” paired up with a seasoned “mentor”, and then “celebrities” the same age as the pro’s. It’ll be an interesting twist, but is likely to do well in the same way that SYTYCD: Next Gen did.
I have never really watched any dancing shows, nor do I know anything about it. However, it seems really cool how these shows are able to bring not only dancers together from all over, but also viewers like yourself!
Honestly never really was into dance or dance shows but you make it out to seem really cool and I’ll definitely check it out.
