Dancing with the Stars: Juniors Brings Life, Joy, and Excitment to the Dance Floor

The long awaited premier of “DWTS: Juniors” occured early this week. Mini stars, such as Sophia Pippin, daughter of NBA all-star, Scotty Pippin, showed their adult counterparts how it’s done on the floor. Other tiny celebrities to grace the show included Stevie Wonders son, Sarah Palin’s grandson, and the winner of Master Chef Junior. Altogther, there was a lot of fun brought to a competition that is usually a hard pressed, serious scene. It was refreshing for poeple who truly enjoy watching dance. Whereas the adult version of DWTS is more oriented around drama, and expensive, crazy costumes, the Juniors truly stepped out to do one thing; dance. There was a lot of cha-chaing, and rumba-ing, and in the end two young couples went home. Everyone danced well, and you could tell the amount of hard work that went behind the duo’s pieces. Nevertheless, as with any shows, there is some debate controversy. There is a solid debate on whether or not everoyone is on a level playing field. There are several “celebrities”(the ones who are paired wih the “pros”), who are known, and even made their enterence into the industry as young dancers. These kids are on the exact same stage, under the same criteria, as others who have never danced in their lives. Understandably, people are questioning how this is fair. In my opinon, however, the dances by the “non dancers” were actaually better than their expirienced counterparts. Neverthless, as the week goes on, I expect the show to make some form of statement defending their choices. To be fair, although those with dance backgrounds were professionals at some point prior to being on the show, they excelled in different genres, no ballroom. Although their other, previous dance training may help, it could aslo inhibit their ability to learn how to do things in a new way. Continuing on throughout the week, both nights of DWTS(adults) went well. Juan Pablo, from fuller house achieved a perfect score. However, (spoiler) Nancy Mckeon of Days of Our Lives had to say goodbye to the rest of the cast after an incrediiblly underwhelming two nights. Next week is sure to bring lots more emotions to the table, as the herd thins.
I thinks it’s really cool that Dancing With the Stars came up with a spin off like this. It’s a great opportunity for these kids to really express themselves. Well done!
