My view of RCL before an after

Before I took RCL, I thought that I knew so much about the structure of a well written argument as well as how to deliver a speech. However, I was very wrong. Over the course of RCL, I was challaneged and pushed out of my comfort zone. I never realized how important it is to invoke ethos, logos and pathos throughout a paper in order to hold an audience. I also just never realized how hard it can be to deliver a speech that doesn’t sound like you’re just reading off a script. In the course of this class, I learned important tools for delivery in a speech. Now, I feel like I’m just having a coversation with my peers or the audience. A lot of the stress that was there before melted away and I just feel a lot more confident in what I say. Also, RCL has given me a platform to  discusss issues that matter to me. I got to do my TED talk on something I was really passionate about and it felt like my opinion mattered. I love this because it’s very important to be confident about what you believe in and RCL nurtured that a lot. Additionally, before the class started I didn’t really think that blogging would be fun and I thought it would just be something that I would’t want to do every week. However, I have loved doing my passion blog and being able to talk about something I love so much and being able to share this with my peers. It’s been incredibly fun and even though it was a challenge at times to reach 400 words, not only was I challenging myself but I was learning along the way. I felt like I learned more about my topic- stuff I didn’t even know before I started writing my blogs. Lastly, before RCL I never truly understood the impact advertisments, and political statements with rhetorical context has on society. They breed commonplaces that we don’t even know we hold. The idea of a commonplace in society was really a phrase I had never heard but now that I understand it, it actually makes it a lot easier to help transform any negative commonplaces I hold. I also love to watch commericals now and try and figure out the commonplace they are trying to challenge. RCL has given me the desire to understand everything on a deep level, and I’m super grateful!
