Full House

I’m sure your heart jumped out of excitement at that phrase. Many of us grew up watching re-runs of one of America’s most classic shows. I personally have seen every single episode, of every single season of that show. I absolutely love the connectedness and humor that Full House would bring to my TV screen. As you may or may not know, the lead characters of the show are Michelle, Stephanie, and DJ, the three kids of the house, and their Dad, Danny who tries to raise them on his own after losing his wife. He can’t do it alone, and his brother in law- (uncle) Jesse, and his brother, (Uncle) Joey. Uncle Jesse goes on to marry Becky, a gorgeous woman who turns him into the best man he can be.

Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky, one of the most adored TV couples of all time.

Essentially, I’m just trying to preface what makes what is one of the biggest American scandals of all time.

Aunt Becky- aka Lori Loughlin has been in and out of the spotlight ever since the show ended. The successful woman went on to essentially be Hallmark movie star and marry Mossimo Gulliano, the creator of Mossimo Supply Co. She had two daughters, Bella and Olivia. Loughlin has never been known for controversy. Her sweet demeanor has led everyone to feel that she’s not just a cool sweet aunt on TV, but in general. But that all changed 2 days ago, when breaking news headlines accusing Lori, and 49 other infamous CEO’s and actors of bribing sports officials to recruit and accept their kids into highly selective universities. Not only were sports officials paid, but people were paying third parties to take college acceptance tests- ACTs and SATs on behalf of their children. I read through the entire affidavit, and it’s truly a bad scene. These moms and dads took advantage of a delicate system to get their kids ahead in life. Oliva- known on youtube and Instagram by OliviaJade (the daughter of Loughlin.) Has always raised some red flags and stirred the pot. Back in August, my friends and I realized she had gotten into USC. This is a highly selective school, and after watching her youtube videos for a while, we were so confused how someone who openly hates school got into one of the best school in the U.S. Olivia even made a video saying she’s only at college for the “experience” (football games, partying). People were so upset, but she was pretty unapologetic. Fast forward to today, where now everyone knows that her mother paid upwards of 500,000 in bribes to have Olivia and her sister fake recruited as “crew rowing” team members. The girls do not, nor have they ever rowed. This allowed the girls to get in by way of recruitment, rather than through merit. Another parent named in the report, Jane Buckingham, paid the same con-man $50,000 to have someone take her sons’ ACT, earning him a perfect score.

The story is still developing, but all I can say is – do you think there’s going to be a special episode of Fuller House about this?

  1. This is crazy to hear about! It shows how unfair the education system can be when people can pay their way into the best schools. Ultimately I think that it’s fair to have repercussions; these students did not earn their way to top universities.

I’ve also heard that they funneled their money through a charity. It looked like they were donating to a (made-up) charity, but that money was actually going to people who would get their children into school. This is so disheartening and I’m glad that their cheating has caught up with them.

  2. This definitely shows the extremes that people will go to in order to get their child into a certain school. This is truly unfair and I hope it gets addressed someday.

I remember hearing about a high school kid who was paid by other students to take the SAT for them and somehow got away with it for a year or two.
