A couple of weeks ago, I saw presidential candidate Beto O’ Rourke when he came to campus.
It was so exciting! I literally got to take a picture with a man who might be the next president of the United States. At his rally, O’Rouke was vocal about a lot of things. He started the rally talking about immigrants in his home state of Texas. He said they are a part of the US as much as any other person. He highlighted the beauty of his culturally diverse neighborhood and commented that it’s incredibly safe and that being afraid of and unfair towards them is completely unjustified.
He also addressed climate change and how he believes that it needs to be addressed before we destroy the place we live in. Beto also talked about women’s’ rights. He, in my opinion, was an incredible speaker. He gave me major pastor vibes. He was super secure and confident in what he was saying and I was certainly a fan of his by the time he wrapped it up.
My overall experience with the Beto rally was one of hope and excitement. He said something so powerful; “we all may have come here on different ships, but we’re all in the same boat.” and that moved me tremendously. He is passionate about many of the things young people and minorities care about, and that is powerful. I’m so glad I went.
