Passion blog- pop culture! The Grammys

The Grammys

The 61st annual Grammys are under 4 days away, and the excitement is growing. The Grammys are an annual event that brings together the best names in music to create a can’t-miss awards show. The night is filled with a star-studded red carpet, performances by big names, and lots of iconic moments. This year, there are many awards up for grabs with well-deserving nominees. This year, the most sought after awards, like record of the year and album of the year include Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Janelle Monae, Post Malone, Lady Gaga, and more. This year, one of the most talked about and played albums, and consequently one of the songs -Shallow- has swept the country off its feet. Shallow is from the movie A Star is Born, starring Bradly Cooper and Lady Gaga. This movie has been one of the most iconic films not just of the year, but of the decade. Combining once- “wild” Gaga, with charming and attractive Bradly Cooper, was an unforeseen match made in heaven, and audiences were all over it. Another exciting category is “song of the year.” Here is the list of nominees:

  • ALL THE STARS
Kendrick Duckworth, Solána Rowe, Al Shuckburgh, Mark Spears & Anthony Tiffith, songwriters (Kendrick Lamar & SZA)
  • BOO’D UP
Larrance Dopson, Joelle James, Ella Mai & Dijon McFarlane, songwriters (Ella Mai)
  • GOD’S PLAN
Aubrey Graham, Daveon Jackson, Brock Korsan, Ron LaTour, Matthew Samuels & Noah Shebib, songwriters (Drake)

  • SHALLOW
Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando & Andrew Wyatt, songwriters (Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper)
  • THIS IS AMERICA
Donald Glover, Ludwig Goransson & Jeffery Lamar Williams, songwriters (Childish Gambino)
Donald Glover channels theatrics in his powerful music video “This is America”

Again, we see Cooper and Gaga’s song securing their spot in yet another category. Another exciting nomination is “This is America” by Childish Gambino. This music video was powerfully symbolic and full of vivid imagery highlighting the struggle and plight of black Americans, and truly brought up a hard conversation in the U.S early this year.

There is an amazing list of nominees, performances, and presenters this year. The Grammys will be a night to remember!

  1. Being completely honest, I had no idea that the Grammy’s were this weekend. But this sounds like an exciting lineup, and I really enjoy watching the pre-grammy’s show with all of the celebrities walking the red carpet. I’m excited to see who wins what awards!

Also it’s interesting that you brought up the “This is America” video by Childish Gambino. I think there are a lot of mixed reviews about the video given how controversial it is, but it would be really interesting if the video won.

  2. I honestly don’t follow the Grammy’s too closely, but I enjoy listening to most of the artists that are competing for the top awards. Maybe I’ll consider watching the Grammy’s for the first time this year!

I also enjoyed seeing the list of nominees for “song of the year.” It was nice to see many familiar songs on a list for such a notable award.
