Born and raised in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Tembi Charles is a 4th-year Dual Title Ph.D. Candidate in Comparative Literature and African Studies. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts (English Literature and Gender Studies) from The University of the Western Cape, and her Master of Arts (English Studies) from Stellenbosch University (South Africa). Tembi works on African Literatures of Migration, and her dissertation engages with the textual articulation of Zimbabwean migrants’ expériences in South Africa. She is currently the Vice-Chair for the Graduate Student Caucus of the African Literature Association (GASCALA). Tembi is a published poet and short story writer.
