March 2020 Anushka Bansal receives a DAAD Scholarship for study and research at the Fraunhofer Institute in Freiburg, Germany.

January 2020 Prof. Joan Redwing gives the 2020 Nakamura Lecture entitled “Epitaxy in 2D:  The path to wafer-scale transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers and heterostructures” at UC-Santa Barbara.

May 2019 Congratulations to Xiaotian Zhang on his Ph.D. thesis defense. He is now Dr. Xiaotian Zhang. He is off to Lawrence Berkeley National Lab for his postdoc.

January 2018  Congratulations to Zak Al Balushi for receiving the Rustum and Della Roy Innovation in Materials Research Award from the Penn State Materials Research Institute.

March 2017  The group received several awards at the annual Penn State MatSE Awards Banquet. Mel Hainey Jr. received the Robert E. Newnham Award for Research Excellence.  Joshua Fox received a first place poster award for his undergraduate senior thesis project.  Dr. Redwing received the MatSE Students’ Choice Faculty of the Year Award.  Congratulations to all!

March 2017  Congratulations to Katy Gerace for receiving a first place oral presentation award in the Technology and Engineering Division at the Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM in Washington, D.C.

February 2017  Dr. Redwing is elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

December 2016  Congratulations to Zak Al Balushi for receiving the 2016 Fall MRS Graduate Student Gold Award in Boston, MA.

August 2016  Congratulations to Zak Al Balushi for receiving the IUCr Young Scientist Award at the 18th International Conference on Crystal Growth and Epitaxy (ICCGE-18) in Nagoya, Japan.

August 2016  Congratulations to our SEEMS group (Dalton Boyle, Mickey Lam and Joshua Ramirez) and their mentor Azim Kozhakhmetov for receiving 1st Place at the Upward Bound Math and Science Research Symposium for their presentation entitled “Two dimensional superconductor niobium (II) disulfide.”

March 2016  Penn State announces the new 2D Crystal Consortium – An NSF Materials Innovation Platform.  This $17.8M facility is aimed at advancing the synthesis of 2D materials for next generation electronics.

March 2016  Dr. Redwing starts her 3 month appointment as a Fulbright Scholar working in Prof. Lars-Erik Wernersson’s group at Lund University in Sweden.
