Wheelchair maintenance is important for both the functionality of the device and the health of the user. Degredation of components, mainly the seat upholstery and the tires, can lead to many health problems. Our product aims to detect any degredation in the wheelchair that has the potential to affect the user’s long term health and notify them.

In our case, we focused on wheelchair upholstery sagging. Sagging often goes unoticed by wheelchair users and contributes to the formation of pressure sores. Our device aims to detect sagging by using a simple LED circuit with a button to notify the user if their seat sags too much. By doing so, we prevent the buildup of pressure that could eventually lead to sores.
