In Rome yesterday, a group of United States citizens participated in an Amnesty International peace rally, with a demonstration outside the United States embassy. Later they put some peace fliers on Pasquino, the “talking statue.” American visitors in Rome may be asked by Italians what they think about the war, or about President Bush. Although Italy is a U.S. ally, and has participated in the invasion and occupation of Iraq, most Italians appear to be strongly against the war.
