Margaret and I arrived in Rome on Thursday morning after our flight from Philadelphia. The plane was within a few minutes of on time. We met our daughter Sarah, who had flown Baltimore-JFK-Rome and arrived an hour before us, and then we all took the train to Trastevere and Tram 8 to the city center. By late morning we had checked into the Sede di Roma and our apartment, and on started getting settled with long walks through the city.

On Friday, Sarah and I walked across the river to a natural foods shop for some supplies. The photograph here shows the Tiber from Ponte Urbino on May 8, looking downstream.

Our students and colleagues start arriving today — Saturday. Most of the students arrive on Monday morning. Everything appears to be ready.
