The main instructional strategies and teaching methods used during my Cosmetology classes is to have each student perform a practical test and hand on practical’s. I teach the theory of the assignment we are on, and then follow with practical’s for the students to understand better. Why I chose this way of teaching is because this is a hands on industry. This will help each student with every assignment given. Using this method will help the students identify what they should and should not be doing during a practical assignment.

The goal out of this teaching method is for the student to see exactly what they can improve on. When working on any practical given, they will start by seeing how something is done. Then they will have the opportunity to work on it until they complete it correctly. From start to finish, the students will keep performing the practical given, and they will see how they improve over time.

I teach in a Juvenile facility, and all of the students that are assigned to my class will follow the curriculum assigned. All of my students are in different grade levels starting with 7th grade. I only teach girls in two different schools we have in this facility. The students have all different learning styles. We follow according to the Department of Education guidelines to make sure all he students receive a good education. Once the student completes all of the classes, they will receive a diploma or their GED.

During my Cosmetology class, the students are all willing to learn. When I show a demonstration, they are listening a watching me at all times. Usually during this class, all of the students want to learn about hair and they always want to do the assignment given to them. They think it’s fun, because it breaks up the other classes they need to take in school.

I do demonstrations for the students so they can see exactly how the way the procedure is done. I show them step by step to make it easier for them to learn. Some of the students will tell me if it looks difficult for them to do.  I will then have to improve on how to show them a different way so they will completely understand how to do it. Showing them on one to one helps them learn a little better if they are struggling. So doing it this way will make them have confident in the work that they do.

The impression of the instructional strategies and teaching methods work really well for all of the students. I know this process works because how fast they are picking up on the assignment giving to them. I feel that this is easier for the students to learn this way. I teach and explain, and then demonstrate the procedure. I ask all the students questions to make sure they are following along without any hesitation. It doesn’t matter what kind of learner each student I have, I teach them the way that it works best for each one. Throughout the years I know that the students learn better hands on. I will continue teaching this way for each class I have, and any future students.
