Tomorrow Vijana (Tomorrow’s Youth) was conceived by its founders, Kubana Alexis and Mathias Rukira, who recognized the pervasive challenge of language barriers among refugees. Their realization came through extensive research conducted with the Humanitarian Innovation Project at Oxford University in 2014. Overcoming language barriers was identified as critical to refugees’ integration into Ugandan society. Tomorrow Vijana’s educational and skills training programs are designed to equip refugees with English proficiency, the official language of Uganda, and valuable skills for self-sufficiency, thereby enhancing their quality of life. Since its inception in 2014, the organization has grown significantly from conducting outdoor classes under a tree to establishing two permanent Community Learning Centers.
