Penn State Fayette is a campus that provides students with an exciting and fun atmosphere through activities and extracurricular opportunities outside of the classroom.
The clubs and organizations on campus are essential to providing students with experiences that help them to make connections with other students and learn leadership skills.
The Fall 2022 semester has provided the student body with more opportunities to get involved as three new clubs have become active including Outing and Adventure Club, Garden Club, and Business Club.
The leaders in each club gave insight as to what the inspiration was for the creation of their respective club and what students can expect from the clubs.
Business Club President, Kenadi Erdely spoke about the excitement of re-activating her club.
“We are so excited to get this club back up and running because such a large portion of our student body is composed of Business majors, and minors, as well, said Business Club President, Kenadi Erdely.
“There are clubs on campus where nursing students, criminal justice students, PTA students, among others are brought together to focus on their field of study and get to know others like them.”
“I think it is important that Business students are afforded this same sense of camaraderie in the Business Club. Having a club that allows us to get together and learn more about our field of study is something I have wanted for quite some time, and others have, as well.”
Alysha Lessman, President of Outing and Adventure Club, also gives insight into the re-activation of the club.
“I decided to reactivate my club because I am very passionate about its goals,” said Outing and Adventure Club President, Alysha Lessman.
“I live for adventure and doing everything outdoors. My current life motto is if you have the chance, then take it. That is exactly what I did with this club. I had the chance to take initiative and reactive OAC, so I did just that.”
“I am glad that I can share my passion for nature and thrill-seeking with fellow students! I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone in my club and participating in our trips thus far!”
Nicole Walker, President of the Garden Club, explains how her club serves the Penn State community.
“The Garden Club serves the Penn State Fayette community by providing students with the opportunity to learn where their food comes from and how to grow their own food,” said Garden Club President, Nicole Walker.
“By maintaining our campus garden, our club is providing our campus family and surrounding community accessibility to fresh produce at no cost. I think the garden also sparks curiosity in our students, faculty, staff, and community members.”
“This curiosity can encourage them to ask questions and maybe even start their own garden and adopt additional sustainable habits, which helps heal our environment overall.”
adventure awaits…
Students who are interested in experiencing nature and going on adventures should consider OAC! Alysha Lessman elaborates upon what the club plans to do.
“The Outing and Adventure Club is all about getting outside and going on adventures,” said Alysha.
“We love to do things such as hiking, rafting, rock climbing, spelunking, biking, and much more! My goal for the club is to do what the club members want. I really want to try and gear this towards everyone’s interest. I am always open to new ideas and enjoy hearing everyone’s input during our meetings.”
Let’s Get down to Business
Kenadi Erdely explains the relevance of Business clubs to all students.
“Students who are interested in joining the Business Club can expect a great year ahead of them,” said Kenadi.
“This is a space where we can explore different aspects of the business world and learn more about our futures. At the end of the day, any student is able to join our club because businesses are interwoven into every aspect of our daily lives.”
“No matter what field one chooses they will be involved in some sort of business. Being involved in this club is one way of learning the future skills we will all need to succeed.”
Flourish with the Garden Club
Nicole Walker explains some of the initiatives she has planned for Garden Club.
“There are quite a few things that we have discussed as far as what we plan to do on campus,” said Nicole.
“We would love to do a beautification project where we plant flowers all around campus. We have also discussed plans to expand the garden to allow us to plant even more produce!”
“Another short-term goal is to create a harvest box for the community center. This would create a place for us to share our harvest from the garden with the rest of the campus and community in a way that is most convenient for everyone.”
“We also have a few long-term ideas, but those belong to the future for now. We hope to provide even more to our campus and community soon!”
