How to Prepare for the 2024 Presidential Election

staff writer: grace vash

One of the most important civic duties of United States citizens is choosing representatives. With all of the information at hand, voting can be confusing to navigate. Here is some important information to keep you informed and get you prepared for the Nov. 5 election.

Pennsylvania offers online voting registration (or for Fayette County) in-person registration can be completed at the Fayette County Election Bureau located at 2 W Main St, Uniontown, PA 15401. If you live in a different county, you can search by county to find your local registration office. Make sure to register before the Oct. 21 to be eligible to vote for the election!
Know your polling place
PA Voter Services has a search engine that can help you find your polling place. This will give details on where to travel to on election day if you opt to vote in person. Make sure to arrive between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5 if you choose in-person voting. Mail-in ballots can offer more flexibility if you’re unsure of what your availability will be.
Stay informed
Make sure to gather news from factual sources and take potential biases into account. It’s important to take articles designed to elicit fear or heavily emotional responses with a grain of salt. If something sounds too absurd to be true, there’s a good chance it might be false and designed to spread misinformation about a candidate.
Vote Local
Presidential elections are important and can seem daunting, but local elections have just as much, if not more, impact on daily American life. The Committee of Seventy has resources available to find information on the representatives on your local ballot and each of their policies.
Remember that although you may only be one person, every vote counts. Voter involvement, especially among young adults, makes all the difference in elections. Stay involved and enjoy the rest of your fall semester!
