Thanksgiving break is finally here! It’s time to sit back, realize, and take your mind off the final exams and projects creeping around the corner. We also just had the first snow of the season, so this is the perfect time to grab a blanket, start a fire, and read a good book. During this break, I’m looking forward to my time off so I can finally snuggle up with books that I’ve been patiently waiting to read. You should, too! Here are three book recommendations across different genres that will help get foster a cozy and relaxing atmosphere.

1. Humorous fiction
“A Man Called Ove” is one of my favorite books I read this year. Following a grumpy 59-year-old man who just recently retired, winter is approaching and a new family is moving into his neighborhood. This heartwarming book includes themes of friendship, love, and how other people can impact your happiness. I rated this book five stars and found myself crying after finishing it. The author of this book, Fredrik Backman, has another novel set in winter called “Beartown” that I’m hoping to read over break!
2. Classic
My favorite book of all time is “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger. This classic is a beautiful coming of age story set in the 1950s in Pennsylvania and New York City during the winter months. Following a troubled young man who is trying his best to find happiness and peace in life, the reader is kept guessing what moves he will make next. With themes of loss of innocence and confusion of adulthood, this is the perfect novel to keep you thinking during Thanksgiving break.
3. Thriller
I just recently listened to the audiobook of “Never Lie” by Freida McFadden, and my jaw dropped at the unexpected plot twists. Set in the outskirts of New York City during the winter months, a newly married couple decide to tour a home that is about a mile from any other house. This house was previously owned by a famous psychiatrist who has been missing and assumed dead. They arrive in the midst of a snowstorm and decide to look for a key and wait for the storm to subside before leaving. Full of clues and twists and turns, this is the perfect cozy thriller to read over break.
Reading is definitely my favorite past time, so I’m very excited to have this time to read and enjoy some new books. What are some of your favorite winter reads? Let us know in the comments below!
