Biography
Rob Peeler
Social, Digital, and Multimedia Coordinator
Originally from Stowe, Pennsylvania, Rob Peeler came to University Park in 2002 after spending 2 years at the Berks campus. After receiving his degree from Penn State in Computer Engineering, Rob took a unique career path and started working as a teacher and faculty trainer for Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, helping students achieve competitive standardized test scores and training other teachers to do the same.
In 2013, Rob decided to build on his interest in communications, social media, and web design and took a role with The Rock Ethics Institute in The College of the Liberal Arts. His position, newly created, gave him the opportunity to re-design the institute’s website and branding, lead the communications subcommittee for Institute involved organizations (The Consortium for the Study of Leadership and Ethics; Philosophy in an Inclusive Key Summer Institute), chair the College of the Liberal Arts Dean’s Staff Advisory committee, and run the communication campaigns for the Stand Up awards program through its 10 year anniversary. Currently, as Social, Digital, and Multimedia Coordinator for the College of Health and Human Development, Rob continues to lead social media and communications efforts at Penn State at a higher level.
Through participation in the Penn State Emerging Leaders Program and the Learning, Design, and Technology Graduate Certificate program, Rob is excited to continue to network in the university community and apply newly developed skills to his professional career.
When not at work or in class, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife, Stacey, and their rescue dog, Eli at their home in Bellefonte. Other interests include music (especially Dave Matthews Band and U2), anything Disney-related, and exploring craft breweries and distilleries.
Leadership
Philosophy
Leadership is not about being right or being the person who barks orders at others. Leadership is about guiding, inspiring, and empowering those on my team. It is about helping my team grow so they can make ethical, sound decisions and take on any task individually or as a team.
The foundational tenet of my leadership philosophy is to build an environment in which team members are able to be honest and candid in their discussions. They are free to present ideas and understand that the ideas, not the individuals presenting the idea, can be met with constructive criticism as the goal of the team is to push boundaries.
Everyone is unique and each person has something to offer the team. Each person was hired for a reason and is an expert in their own right. Being a leader is about listening actively, asking questions, empathizing, and showing that you care about each member of the team.
