Side-Dressing Corn

Today the whole intern team got to assist Heather Karsten and her team in side-dressing corn with nitrogen. Side-dressing is the addition of fertilizer after the crop has emerged. In this case, we side-dressed with urea pellets to restore the nitrogen that corn takes up out of the soil. Within the plots, we randomly applied rates from 25-225 kilograms per hectare. The middle 2 rows of each plot will be harvested to compare the yield differences to determine which application rate is the most efficient.
