Gabriela “Gaby” Muller Hogg was born on December 8, 1937, in Tel Aviv, Israel, to Rose Spiro Siemientek (click here to view her biography) and Paul Muller. She had two half-brothers, Patrice Muller of Paris, France, and Joel Muller of Nice, France, the former preceded her in death. She married Richard “Dick” Hogg in 1970. They had no children together.
In 1951, Gaby’s parents divorced and her mother, Rose, remarried. Gaby, her mother, and her stepfather, Daniel Siemientek, moved to Caracas, Venezuela, that same year. The family lived in Venezuela for 12 years, where Gaby spent most of her adolescence and young adulthood. In 1963, the family immigrated to the U.S. It is unknown where the family first settled in the U.S.
In 1967, Gaby received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkley, and received a master’s degree in chemistry from Northwestern University in 1970. She married Richard “Dick” Hogg in Chicago, Illinois, on September 21, 1970. Gaby and Dick later moved to State College, Pennsylvania, where Gaby further pursued her graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University in the 1970s.
According to Gaby’s obituary, “She was passionate about music, an avid reader, an excellent cook, a keen gardener and was known for her quality needlework, especially knitting. She was fluent in three languages and could communicate in at least three more.”
According to her obituary, Gaby died on January 8, 2019, at the age of 81 at Juniper Village at Brookline in State College of unknown causes. She was buried at the Rodef Shalom Cemetery in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, alongside her mother, Rose, who preceded her in death.
