PMEA stands for Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. This is a highly professional organization meant to enhance the musical development of high school students across the commonwealth.

Expressions is a spinoff of the Twitter page, PMEA Confessions. This is a very unprofessional student account where participants have the opportunity to post anonymous, sometimes inappropriate, commentary on the festival experience.

Neither of these topics will be discussed in this blog.

 

…Well that’s not entirely true. You won’t find information about the PMEA mission statement, and you won’t find the stories of the various fruits that mysteriously appeared on stage during rehearsals. While both of those things might be humorous in certain respects, the actual contents of this blog are intended to be more inspiring and personal – a secondhand experience. A few questions that might be answered include:

• Why music?
• Seriously, why music?
• Okay okay, but science…
• What is this art you speak of?

and

• How do I learn of this wisdom?

I asked these questions myself, and it was a great relief when I finally developed answers for them. No longer would have to be ashamed to label myself as a violist, or to introduce myself as a music major.
