XTurb-PSU

Overview

The XTurb-PSU code is a wind turbine and analysis tool that is being actively developed in Dr. Schmitz’s research group at Penn State. In its present form, XTurb-PSU is capable of analyzing wind turbine blade designs in rotating and parked conditions subject to steady inflow. The code uses either classical Blade Element Momentum Theory (BEMT) or a Helicoidal Vortex Method (HVM) originally developed by Prof. J. J. Chattot at UC Davis for the prediction of blade loads. Dr. Schmitz integrates active research on XTurb-PSU into the teaching of his graduate course AERSP 583: Wind Turbine Aerodynamics.

XTurb-PSU Files (Wiley Text)

Aerodynamics of Wind Turbines is a comprehensive introduction to the aerodynamics, scaled design and analysis, and optimization of horizontal-axis wind turbines. The book integrates the easy-to-use, hands-on XTurb design and analysis software which enhances the learning experience and helps with a deeper and more complete understanding of the subject matter. The book is written for senior undergraduate and graduate students in wind energy as well as practicing engineers and scientists.
