Why Acadia National Park is the Best Place on Earth

Perfect climate, dazzling scenery, long biking trails and great food, how can any other place be better then Mount Desert Island, Maine?  The natural beauty of Acadia National Park will leave you breathless and make you never want to leave.

I am a runner and in my humble opinion Acadia National Park is the best place on earth to run.  Carriage Trails in Acadia were created as a gift from John D. Rockefeller Jr. to allow for transportation by horse carriage throughout Maine in the 1900’s (Acadia National Park).  They pass through many of the most scenic routes on Mount Desert island. The approximate six mile loop around Eagle lake is my favorite path.  Although there is some elevation gain, the wide gravel roads and beautiful scenery make the route extremely enjoyable.  Eagle Lake is my favorite route, but there are many trails to choose from with different landscapes and distances in Acadia.  Check out the wide variety of trails here.

Are you interested in taking a snack break in the middle of a hilly bike ride?  Waterfall Bridge is the perfect spot for a picnic.  My family and I stopped at Sawyer Specialty, a wine and cheese shop in Southwest Harbor.  We picked out a variety of cheeses and my parents chose a bottle of wine.  We then biked starting from the Brown Mountain Gate House Parking Lot to waterfall bridge and had a picnic with cheese and crackers and wine for my parents.  The bridge overlooks a beautiful waterfall, but because of a lack of rainfall in the weeks preceding my trip there was only a slight drizzle.  According to locals usually there is a greater stream of water so I would not let this discourage you from visiting waterfall bridge.

Restaurants in Maine have amazing blueberry dishes because Maine has spectacular wild blueberries everywhere.  Wild blueberry bushes line the roads allowing tourists to pick them for baking or just snacking.  If picking your own berries is not your style or you just want easily accessible berries I recommend Jordan’s Restaurant, a breakfast diner in Bar Harbor.  Jordan’s Restaurant has excellent blueberry pancakes and muffins along with a list of other options.

Before you leave from your trip you must make the trip up Cadillac Mountain.  It is the highest point on the east coast and provides a breathtaking view of Mount Desert Island (National Park Service).  Tourists are allowed to drive up the mountain to view sunrises, sunsets and enjoy the scenic view.

Lastly if beautiful views and wonderful trails aren’t enough to make you drop everything and travel to Acadia, during the summer months the temperatures there are significantly cooler than most other places on the east coast.  Because temperatures during my trip ranged from 50-75 degrees Fahrenheit, I actually had to wear pants when I was there!

In all honesty Acadia National Park is my favorite vacation destination in the world and if the winters weren’t so harsh I would move there.  I highly recommend planning a trip to this beautiful park for next summer and spending a week enjoying nature and being active!
