“Seven Seconds”…

Castle Vardulon: Criminal Minds 305: Seven Seconds

This episode was all types of emotions. Like I did not know the next move of any character at any point in the episode.

Begins at a mall in Potomac Mills, VA, where a lady is running around the mall while an announcement is blaring over the speakers. The announcement says “Paging Katie Jacobs. Please report to security immediately”, then followed by 911 call made by Susan Jobs expressing that her niece is gone and her parents are still looking for her. Katie is the niece, she’s only 6 years old.

Ok, one thing about criminal minds is that there is no limit of characters they throw into every episode. Sometimes its hard to keep up, like this episode has 2 families involved. So let me simplify it real quick, theres Katie Jacobs who is the 6 year old missing, her parents Richard and Beth Jacobs. Then theres Susan Jacobs whos Katies aunt and her husband Paul who have a son named Jeremy. Fun fact, Richard and Paul are both brothers in the show and in real life!!

Day start off with all of them having a trip to the mall, Beth and Richard go off looking for something leaving Katie with Susan and Paul. Susan and Paul then leave Katie with Jeremy at an arcade where Jeremy looses her. Due to the fact that a week before there was another missing case from the mall where the victim ended up being killed, Katies needed to be found rapidly. BAU of course was then called in. The mall is put into lockdown, and a thorough search of the mall would take 3 hours. SWAT is called in, and the team continues to talk to the families, each member separately. Katies parents becoming angry not understanding why the team is questioning them and not searching for their daughter. Susan and Paul start feeling guilty for leaving Katie with Jeremy.

Reid and Morgan seperate and go search Katies house, they find that Katie wets the bed and all her dolls were destroyed which lead them to believe she is being molested. At this point they think its by her father so Morgan calls Hotch to tell him. Hotch then says that its not her father, its either Paul or Jeremy. Hotch goes over to Paul and starts asking him questions about Jeremy and something is off when Paul didn’t know any of the answers to questions about his own son. Things are not adding up hmm

Parentis then remembers that Susan left Katie with Jeremy because she went to get an engraved lighter for Paul as a gift, but on a stressful day where his niece is missing…Paul has not lit up one cigarette. Susan also earlier that she used to work in retail meaning she used to work at this mall. DING DING Susan is the unsub, Susan kidnapped her own niece because she found out Paul was abusing Katie and the sick mind of Susan became jealous. Susan tells them where Katie is which was a janitors closet in the basement.

The episode leaves us off with Jeremy scared now that his parents are being arrested but Hotch affirming him that he’ll be ok.

  1. I am a huge fan of Criminal Minds, I think I’ve watched this show twice, and I distinctly remember this episode out of all 15 seasons. Choosing to blog about this episode was a good choice because as a fan I remember it, and looking at it as someone who may not have seen an episode, it is certainly a way to get them to go watch it. As far as the structure of your blog, I think it’s fine. There were a few grammatical mistakes that made the plot a little hard to follow, but I could still understand what was happening. I like how you came across as more of conversational; however, it all felt a little rushed. Almost like you were trying to cram every detail into these 500, which I get because you want to tell this story, but it causes the blog to come off a bit choppy. Still, I love your topic and the episodes you’ve chosen thus far.
