Finding benefits for training abstract words in monolingual English-speakers with aphasia, we formed a collaboration with Dr. Teresa Gray, director of the Gray Matter Lab (https://graymatterlab.sfsu.edu/), to adapt AbSANT for use in a variety of languages.

In addition to finding direct training effects for abstract words and generalization effects for related concrete words in the trained language, we have found cross-language generalization effects.

We believe that these cross-language benefits are related to how languages interact in a person who is bilingual. See our publications about this training here.

If you are an SLP and would like to conduct AbSANT with your clients, contact Dr. Chaleece Sandberg at cws18@psu.edu to obtain treatment materials.

We are always recruiting people who have had a stroke and have aphasia to participate in our treatment studies. If you are interested in participating in treatment research, contact Dr. Chaleece Sandberg at cws18@psu.edu or the lab at sandberglab@gmail.com.
