Lets look at some QBs

Welcome to draft season and it’s everybody’s favorite time to make hasty judgements on the games most important position: QB Scouting! QB is definitely the weakest part of this draft class and to be honest, I don’t see any of them finding any type of large success in the league. Despite this, there are some that do catch the eye, albeit slightly. I want to talk about a couple guys that list including Kenny Pickett, Matt Corral, and Malik Wills.

2022 NFL draft: Kenny Pickett scouting report

Kenny Pickett is extremely boring. So boring that I barely want to talk about him. He’s a consistent player with strong leadership skills and solidly athletic and was a Heisman finalist. He’s also a fifth year senior with a wealth of experience yada yada yada. How many times do we see a player like this. A hero in college for a solid power five school that has his hero moments but will eventually falter in the pros. He feels like a carbon copy of Drew Lock coming out of Mizzou a few years back. His physical tools and playstyle reminisce of Josh Rosen. We can see how those guys turned out. He plays well off script but most guys can in college. He reads pressure badly and takes bad sacks, and if he’s picked highly, most teams don’t have great offensive lines. I don’t see a lot in Pickett, but he’s probably the safest pick here.

Texans Talk Podcast: Matt Corral to Houston conspiracy theories

Matt Corral is injured. This should probably be the first thing to note for any team looking to pick him up. He’s a classic SEC gunslinger, who resembles Baker Mayfield a lot. This injury isn’t the first one he’s had also, which may be a cause for concern. The best ability is availability after all. He has a strong tendency to play off the script and play hero ball. He’s confident but is also immature and has trouble getting to his second and third reads without pulling the trigger early. Great arm strength and above average accuracy on long routes. His short passing game and rpo are solid but he has difficulty making the right decision. He does make decisions very quickly though. He’s mobile, but he’s not scary athletic. Corral is a medium risk player, most likely ending up some average starter or good backup.

Malik Willis 2022 NFL Draft profile: Fantasy football fits, full scouting report, Dynasty outlook, stats, more - CBSSports.com

The player that is the most boom or bust is my favorite QB in the class by a mile, Malik Wills. The raw unpolished gem with incredible physical tools. I think more teams need to understand that this is the QB they’re looking for. Think of the current best young QBs in the league right now: Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, and Lamar Jackson. Every single one was touted as a physical phenom but raw prospects. It has been shown that with good coaching, these players ceilings are unfathomable. Malik Wills is like that. He doesn’t play for a power five team, he plays for Liberty. He hasn’t shown the greatest aversion to turning the ball over but he generates yardage. He is simply amazing to watch and I truly think if any QB succeeds from this draft, it’s gonna be him.
