RELIGION

India is a huge country with diverse population. With diverse population comes people with different religious and regional ethnicity. India is a religiously pluralistic and multiethnic democracy – the largest in the world. Its constitution provides for freedom of conscience and the right to profess, practice and propagate religion. It has protections for minorities against discrimination on the grounds of religion or caste (a strict social stratification based on Hinduism). In 1976, the constitution was amended, officially making the country a secular state.  While 94% of the world’s Hindus live in India, there also are substantial populations of Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and adherents of folk religions. Every religion is celebrated here. No religion dominates here. Each religion comes with their own significance. The beauty of India is such that even all the religious spots are made at one place and people of any religion can enter any of the religious places. There is a place in a  city India, Mumbai  where the Temple for Hindus, Masjid of the Muslims, and Church of the Christians are made at the same spot. This is how diverse our culture is. Everyone celebrates and respects each other’s religion.  I am proud to be born in this soil.
