For this week’s photographer, I have decided to highlight Magdalena Martin. She showcases a variety of styles like travel, hotel, vintage style, fashion, wedding, and my personal favorite dance.
About the Photographer:
Magdalena Martin started to sell her photographs in 2011 to a variety of private customers, art companies, and interior stores. You will notice most of her photographs are set in Paris where she lives. The enormous amount of variety she uses caught the attention of magazines requesting her to make editorials.
Travel Photography:
Her stunning photos mainly take place and France, and it is no surprise an expert of the area knows how to photograph from the best angles. The coloring of the photos gives a pastel tone to them that I find rather calming. I feel her photos are a different take on travel photography because you tend to see travel photos vibrant and saturated, while hers are softer in color. I usually get tired of looking at famous destination places in photographs, but her take it on it is a breath of fresh air and something different I can continue to look at.

Vintage Style Photography:
If you want to relieve the iconic 40s and 50s, Magdalena Martin captured it beautifully with her model friend Alexandra Freeman and on the movie set of Adieu Monsier Haffmann. She says,” I have a passion for shooting vintage or historical style, and in Paris, I have the perfect backdrops for it.” She creates photographs in black and white and a few in a color that tend to have a brown tint to them. Some photos showcase such a vintage quality, that if you look close enough you could consider some of them to be on film, or edited to look like it. The motion she captures in the models’ movement is very natural and reminds me of what would be in a newspaper or magazine back then. It is nice to see that the style photography was more like in the past is still being admired to this day and even being recreated.

Dance Photography:
One of Magdalena Martin’s signature and more popular styles, she captures dancers in the beautiful setting of Paris. Mainly are distinguishable areas like the Eiffel tower, the louvre, and the city’s scenic streets. It is noticeable that she photographs ballerinas in pointe shoes more frequently than the rest of the dance styles, with the occasional ballroom, can-can, and tap dancers. The soft tones to her photographs are still portrayed here like in travel, while still having a lot of sharpness to the photos. The details all the way to the loose hairs are extremely impressive. I admire how all of the dance photographs are taken in an outside setting and not in a studio. You do not see that as often today and knowing the difficulty of working with nature, the lighting is beautiful. The placement of the dancer is also well thought through because although they are distinguishable, it doesn’t take away from the dancer, but adds to them. Being a dance photographer myself, this is what dragged me in a caused me to dig deeper into her, and I am happy I did!
