About the Photographer:
Jinga Zhang is a fine art photographer who specializes in Fashion. Her work is inspired by her Asian background because she was born in Beijing then raised in Singapore. She has moved over to the USA to focus her work in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Her work can be seen all around the world for the numerous covers and articles she has photographed for companies like VOGUE, Harper’s, Vanity Fair, ELLE, etc. She has been so successful that she was even named on Forbes Asia’s 30 Under List for Art & Style in 2018! She has been winning awards since 2005 for her work and her exhibitions have been seen in places like Singapore, New York, Las Vegas, Germany, Sweden, and other cities around the globe!
Fashion:
First off let me just say… WOW! When looking into her work, her fashion photography is what made me want to write about her. The high contrast in the photos works really well with the lighting and showcasing the outfits her models are in. Also, the amount of details and clarity I can see in the photos is absolutely astonishing. I feel no matter how much I zoom in or in large her work, the quality will not decrease. It’s no surprise to see most of her work has Asian models in it because of her goal to use her Asian background in her work. All of her fashion photography is clean-cut, deep with clarity, and photos I can’t keep my eyes off of. You can tell this is her specialty and why she makes covers for magazines often.
Exhibitions:
As I stated above, Jinga Zhang has had her exhibitions all around the world. As demonstrated in the photos above, she has done versions of galleries that are more formal, while also having experience in more modern-day galleries. I am starting to notice she heavily uses flowers or flower petals in her photos with her models. It helps show forth her style and makes audiences be able to distinctly depict her art from others. It is interesting to see the different takes on her exhibitions, and no matter what the atmosphere may be, her photos are still strong and complimentary for the exhibition. I believe her work like this truly shows the fine art side of her work.
Motion:
Her work as a photographer isn’t her only talent. She has also created a few motion short films for VOGUE that are accessible on her website. Overall:
Jinga Zhang’s work and achievements are phenomenal, especially for her age. This demonstrates that it is never too early to be successful, and that is it possible as long as you put the work in. Over Thanksgiving break, I started to play around with studio photography and more specifically fashion. I had so much done it and I wanted to learn more about it, or possibly pursue it. Looking at Jinga Zhang’s work inspires me to continue playing with fashion photography and see what I can come up with. She has become a role model to me and she just gained a new Instagram follower!
