SBS Lab Member Rosina Adhikari Receives Scholarship from IBPSA-USA to Attend SimBuild 2024 Conference
Congratulations to Rosina Adhikari for receiving the generous scholarship from IBPSA-USA which supports her in traveling to the SimBuild 2024 conference. Rosina is performing her Ph.D. research in building energy modeling and applications. This year we are sedining 6 students to the SimBuild conference this year and are excited to see how much they learn from experts at this conference.
SBS Lab Member Saranya Anbarasu Receives Marlene & Joseph Borda Architectural Engineering Graduates Travel Fellowship.
Congratulations to SBS lab member Saranya Anbarasu on receiving the Marlene & Joseph Borda Architectural Engineering Graduates Travel Fellowship. This fellowship is supporting her to present her paper “Optimizing Operational Costs in Combined Heat and Power Integrated District Heating Systems: A Reinforcement Learning Approach” at IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2024 Conference in Denver, Colorado. We appreciate all the generous donors for supporting the lab members to have these experiences.
Saranya’s paper is joint research of Tanmay Ambadkar, Rosina Adhikari, Kathryn Hinkleman, Zhanwei He, and Ardeshir Moftakhari from our DOE project.
SBS Lab Member Viswanathan Ganesh Receives Prestigious Scholarships
SBS lab member and new Ph.D. student Viswanathan Ganesh received two prestigious scholarships. He received the College of Engineering scholarship and Marlene and Joseph Borda scholarship. This is a great start to Viswanathan’s time with the lab. With a M.S. in Sustainable Electric Power Engineering and Electromobility at Chalmers University of Technology. Viswanathan is bringing his expertise in electrical engineering to study building to grid integration. Congratulations to Viswanathan on this amazing accomplishment.
SBS Lab Member Jiyuan Sui Receives Prestigious Scholarships
SBS lab member and new Ph.D. student Jiyuan Sui received three prestigious scholarships. He received the University Graduate Fellowship, College of Engineering Scholarship, and the Marlene and Joseph Borda Scholarship. This is a great start to Jiyuan’s time with the lab. With a M.S. in Building Performance and Diagnostics at Carnegie Mellon University, Jiyuan’s research will be focused on large scale building energy modeling and carbon emission reduction. Congratulations to Jiyuan on this amazing accomplishment.
Katy Hinkelman Receives 2022-23 Boyer Graduate Scholarship
Congratulations to SBS Lab PhD candidate Katy Hinkelman, who recently received the Lester L. Boyer Graduate Research Scholarship for the 2022-23 academic year. Katy is a senior PhD student in the lab who has made invaluable contributions to the lab’s research on district energy systems and sustainable communities. Katy’s current research focuses on incorporating patterns and processes found in nature, a technique called biomimicry, into energy distribution networks. Biomimicry has been adopted in many engineering fields and Katy is helping to pioneer its use in the building and energy sectors. Katy, like Dr. Boyer, also started her own family during graduate school.
We thank the late Dr. Boyer and the Penn State Architectural Engineering program for their generous support. We are very grateful.
