Welcome to Schuylkill Small Worlds Tiny Earth Program (SWTEP).
We hunt for antibiotic producing bacteria in the soil, in an effort to discover new antibiotics. We also use our knowledge to spread the word about antibiotic resistance and hope our efforts help to fight it. All researchers in the program are students (lead by one wonderful fearless instructor) and we are full of Penn State Schuylkill Pride.
Come follow us on our journey. We hope you learn something along the way.
Each year we will highlight our newest cohort among these pages and their journeys as well. Though we start in the same place, the Penn State Schuylkill campus, our results end up very different and, of course, interesting. You can read more on their symposium pages.
Land Acknowledgement
The Pennsylvania State University campuses are located on the original homelands of the Erie, Haudenosaunee (Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk, and Tuscarora), Lenape (Delaware Nation, Delaware Tribe, Stockbridge-Munsee), Monongahela, Shawnee (Absentee, Eastern, and Oklahoma), Susquehannock, and Wahzhazhe (Osage) Nations. As a land grant institution, we acknowledge and honor the traditional caretakers of these lands and strive to understand and model their responsible stewardship. We also acknowledge the longer history of these lands and our place in that history.
