The Prehealth Office is opening our personal statement module for students intending to enter a Physician Assistant/Associate program beginning in 2023. Please join the Canvas module by completing the form at the bottom of this page to have your personal statement reviewed by a prehealth adviser in NOVEMBER, 2021. Pre-PA students may submit their personal statement to be reviewed between November 2-12, 2021. Students intending to enter medical, dental, optometry, or podiatry programs will have their personal statements reviewed at a later date during their comprehensive interview.
For some guidance on personal statements, read this blog post from a medical school dean on reflection.
To get your personal statement reviewed by an adviser, please go through our ” Physician Assistant Personal Statement Modules (2023 Matriculation)” on Canvas. Each candidate will need to request access to the module.
- If you are a current Penn State student: Please complete the form below.
- If you are NOT a current Penn State student:
- Please reactivate your access account by going here: https://accounts.psu.edu/
- Please return to this page when your account has been activated, and complete the form.
You will be notified when you have been added to the Canvas module. The more writing you submit in the module, the more helpful the adviser reviewing your personal statement can be. We advise that you do your best to complete and answer as many prompts as possible to maximize the content you have available when putting together your personal statement draft.
When you have completed the module, please allow 2-3 weeks for a prehealth adviser to get back to you. We will offer feedback a maximum of 3 times. Our reviews are restricted to content and tone. Please visit the Writing Center and your other resources (professors, etc) to get your grammar and spelling checked.
We will not review any personal statements until after November 2, 2021. The Canvas module will remain open, so that you can continue to utilize the writing exercises. We also recommend that all candidates save their writing pieces, as you may want to use them on your secondary application responses.
