Being a former tuba player I felt compelled…

Being a former tuba player, I felt compelled to share this. This is arguably the world’s largest tuba currently in New York. It was made around the early 1900’s. It does not make a normal tuba sound. It is significantly lower and can only the fundamentals of the instrument. One of the top tuba players in the country came and played it. He could barely make a noise loud enough for the camera to pick up. Compared to an orchestra tuba that it typically 35-40lbs, this tuba is easily 100lbs.

Well to start off that tuba is insane! However to link it to the class, I wonder how different the pitch is since the resonator is so much larger. Also since it is so big he has to position it different I’m sure our ears perceive the sound differently not only because of the size, but since the opening is facing the ceiling now instead of the wall. I guessed it would have a lower fundamental like you said in your comment, like I said earlier it is due to the increase in the size of the tuba. You can also tell that the sound of the tuba is amplified also do to the increase in size of the resonator.

Super Cool Instrument for Horror Movies

This instrument is made for horror movies’ BGM. It is made up of several metal bars and a metal plate. With various lengths, every single metal bar will vibrate with different frequency therefore producing different sound. When the artist in the video uses a metal stick to touch every metal bar, their combination of vibration produces a unique sound. And the large metal plate at the bottom of the instrument also vibrates so that it makes a heavy and horrible feeling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d1yDCWicf0

That’s really neat. I always figured that horror movies used some kind of synthesizer or computer to make their sound effects. From watching the video, it looks incredibly simple to play and make. I imagine it’s a rather instrument as well.
