For my senior capstone project, I am team lead for a project with Lockheed Martin. The focus on this project is to build a remote operated multifunction ocean surface vessel capable of carrying and
deploying various payloads. This project will be budgeted at $1000 with a target of $750. The contract will last eight months, starting in August 2021 and culminating in May 2022. The end deliverables for this project are the final vessel, an operator’s manual, a bill of materials, and week-to-week requests from the customer team.
As project lead, I coordinate the project plan, communicate with the customer team, and take part in research and design. The entire design process is detailed in the following progress report.
The current vessel design is pictured below. The vessel will utilize four motors at different orientations to achieve maximum maneuverability. The hull will have a cut out which will be covered with a clear plastic to allow for underwater vision monitoring. The two payloads will be held to the vessel through the use of electromagnets. The one payload is designed to sink when detached from the vessel. The other payload will use compressed air to propel itself through the water.
