Penn State Berks

The Penn State Berks Thun Library serves a student population of approximately 2300 students and offers 21 baccalaureate degrees.  As our “At a Glance” page notes, Penn State Berks “combines the advantages of an intimate campus setting with small classes and individualized attention with the vast resources that only a major research university can provide.”  Thun is a traditional center for campus.

The purpose of our sensory room is to “foster wellness & support your academic success by empowering you to manage stimuli in ways that help maximize your individual well-being & learning.”  We adapted one of our existing study rooms to make it sensory-friendly:

A Selection of Our Sensory Collections

Our sensory kits collection currently includes a lava lamp, fidget spinners, various sound mixers, a relaxation machine, tablet with visual stim, tap light, sensory glasses, and hologram pyramid.  These technologies allow students to manage their visual, auditory, and tactile sensations.  Alex Chisholm, Annamarie Given, and Brett Spencer at Penn State Berks selected this set of tools, and they were generously funded by the Lib Well Committee at Penn State Libraries.
