Welcome!

Greetings! I am a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science at Penn State, and an Adjunct Researcher in social policy at the RAND Corporation. In fall 2023, I will begin as an Assistant Professor at the University of North Florida.

I study the role of intergroup relations in American politics. My dissertation presents a measure of community polarization, showing that some towns and cities are far more polarized than others, and explaining the causes and consequences of these high-animosity environments. I also conduct research on race and politics and public policy, and in the past, have published methodological work on measuring ideology.

In these pages, you will find details regarding my research and background. If you wish to get in touch with me, I look forward to hearing from you via email at sbw59 [at] psu.edu.
