The office of the 1950s and ‘60s was, in many ways, the embodiment of the American dream; it allowed for a comfortable salary, an independent lifestyle, and room for advancement. You would mostly see the businessman or executive on the phone in his office. Smoking in the office and having a beautiful secretary was seen as masculine.

The 1970’s businessman was all about being a man. he would often wear a three piece suit, have facial hair, a nice main, drink, smoke, drive a Cadillac, and carry a suitcase phone. Suits and dress shirts were popular for work and formal occasions. Lines and shapes of the suits and shirts varied from what had been acceptable in previous decades. Many suit jackets had flared collars and flared pants. Suits also had patterns such as plaid with brighter colors.

In the 1980’s Businessmen used their pagers and beepers. They would also wear Button-down oxford shirts, Polo shirts with the collars turned up, Argyle sweaters – often tied loosely around the neck, Sweater vests , Peg-legged jeans , Cuffed khakis, and Penny loafers or bright white sneakers

In the 1990’s Business men would carry big cell phones, wear suits that were a little to big for them, way to long for them, had shoulder pads and had 3 or more button holes. Now with the suit along came a tie.  In the 90s ties were loud and obnoxious with multicolor geometric patterns.Then we finally get to the 2000’s today in 2015 technology and fashion has changed tremendously. Today business man wear more tight-fitting suits, a nice button up, some accessories such as a suitcase or some glasses and a plain tie. As you can see over the years fashion and technology has changed for businessmen.I think we’ve come along way.
