My name is Carmen Bilek and I am excited to be one of the participants in this year’s Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program.
In writing this bio, I had to ask myself the question: “What do you really need to know about me, in a nutshell, that will help you decide if I can help you in moving toward your goals of expanding your network and getting immediate feedback on your ventures or entrepreneurial ideas and aspirations?”
Corporate Entrepreneur, Catalyst for Change, Team Builder, Out-of-the-Box Thinker—those are descriptive behaviors that have helped me standout as a person, an entrepreneur, and a leader when I think about my achievements over the past 30 plus years. Being employed by one of the biggest investor-owned utility companies in the nation, First Energy (FE) enabled me to develop and thrive using my unique strengths. Most of my accomplishments at FE deal with process and productivity improvements, business case initiatives, labor/union relationships and a focus on creating an environment where those around me feel valued and inspired to work toward organizational goals. Strategic Vision and understanding unintended consequences of the decision-making process has enabled me to be successful in accomplishing corporate objectives that have benefited the corporation and its employees.
I have master’s degree in Organizational Leadership (MSOL), a bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Development and have successfully helped to start two businesses of my own (co-owner with my husband).
My personality preference is found in only 5% of the general population and is quoted as follows: “Those in that 5% have great influence because of their extraordinary impact on others. Referred to as a ‘Catalyst Leader’, often, they are very accurate about organizational climate, have an uncanny sense of the motivations of others, and can be excellent as the head of an organization. Enthusiastic, insightful, innovative, versatile, and tireless in pursuit of new possibilities—they enjoy bringing about change related to making things better for people.” (Hirsh and Kummerow; Kiersey and Bates)
That is me in a nutshell—I’m looking forward to working with someone who wants to think outside the box, is enthusiastic about their ideas, and wants to turn their dreams into a reality.
