I am a PhD candidate in the Geosciences Department here at Penn State. I work on the problem of how we can use the stratigraphic record to reconstruct past environments and how we can quantify the uncertainty involved in that reconstruction. Currently, I am focused on how to estimate when stratigraphy switches from predominantly recording internal sediment transport dynamics to being a more faithful recorder of environmental change. This hand off between autogenic-dominated stratigraphy and allogenic-dominated stratigraphy is critical to understanding how and where climate or tectonics can be reconstructed from the record.
My projects include:
- Signal shredding of geochemical tracers through variable sedimentation, sediment mixing, and sampling bias
- Impact of depositional environment on the preservation of the PETM on the Mid-Atlantic shelf
- Applying the Compensation Index to deltaic outcrops in the Western Interior Seaway
- Paleoslope reconstruction and uncertainty analysis of Jurassic Morrison Formation channels in central Utah, done as part of my MS at University of Wyoming
