Penn State Memes!

Again this week I was unsure of what to write my passion blog about. So, like a typical teenager, I went to Facebook! While searching my Facebook for Penn State related things to blog about, I found Penn State memes under liked pages. If you don’t know what a meme is, it’s basically a little funny or ironic statement over top of a popular or well-known picture. The Penn State memes page has lots of pictures of sayings that only Penn Staters will understand. Here are some of my favorites..

Anyone who has been on Angel recently has probably been prompted to allow use of cookies. I’m no computer expert; I’m aware that cookies are somewhat related to internet browsers, but I have no idea what they do. Just like mindlessly agreeing to Terms of Use on a new website, I clicked to enable cookies! Yay Cookie Monster!

When you walk into Beaver Stadium, you might as well just turn your phone off because you know there will be zero reception. However, we tend to be way too attached to our phones and still hopelessly try to send and receive texts during the game. For some odd reason, texts randomly go through sometimes. There is an odd sense of accomplishment that comes with being able to successfully get that one text that might only have three words in it out into the airwaves.

I might be 19 years old, but I have no shame in admitting that I still find Spongebob to be hilarious. I look at that meme and can totally hear Spongebob’s squeaky voice saying, “didn’t you Squidward?”. I can’t get enough of the “in your face, Penn State is still going to be awesome regardless of how negative the media feels about us” stuff, and this combines that with Spongebob! What more can you ask for?

Last one, but probably my favorite. It speaks for itself. I just love how Penn State has risen above all of the bad press. “We Were Penn State” was probably one of the most disheartening statements that I’ve ever read. Right now, I think “We Are Penn State” more than ever.

I love all of those! They are wonderful. Especially the last one. It doesn’t make me laugh as much as the other ones, but it is definitely heartwarming. I love that we are part of a place that will stand up together and face whatever is thrown at us, just to show that we won’t back down. We ARE and always will be Penn State.

I absolutely love Penn State memes. I find myself scrolling through the images on a weekly basis just waiting for more! I love scrolling through the older ones and actually understanding what they are about. I remember last year PSU memes popped up on my news feed and none of them were funny, but now that I’m here it’s great to go through them. It’s definitely something that everyone needs to see!

I absolutely love Penn State Memes! I actually love many memes, but I have a special taste for PSU memes because only Penn Staters can relate to them. My only problem with the Facebook page is that it sometimes bashes other schools, which I find to be in poor taste. Also, the moderator of the page will only upload memes once a week (or at least it seems that way). Memes are very interesting. A picture can instantly become hilarious just by inserting that characteristic white capital text. I’ve literally spent hours simply looking at memes online (and I have no shame in doing so).

I just liked this page on Facebook last week! I love going through and looking through all the different pictures. I love the idea that the only people who really get the memes are those who are at or went to Penn State. It almost makes me feel a stronger sense of community on campus. I like the difference between the purely funny ones, mocking students and various policy’s at school, and the ones like the last picture you posted that really do focus on us as Penn State rising above everything that has happened in the last year. I think these are an interesting and new form of rhetoric for our generation. I know that I personally look at them all the time! I really liked this post!

Love all of them, but especially the one about trying to send a text in beaver stadium, because it is so true. Sitting in beaver stadium it is impossible to send off a text as hard as I’ve tried, and nothing is more depressing than siting in the stadium and watching your battery go from 96% to 32% in 3 short hours.

This is a really cool blog! I personally love memes, and the Penn State ones you picked are great. I really like the Cookie Monster one in particular haha. I know this is your passion blog but it would be cool if you wrote about memes for your RCL blog sometime. You could write about the rhetoric of memes and how the images and the words combine to create meaning.
