Review: [SPOILERS ALERT]

This movie was tastefully done. Instead of basic jump-scares, each scene is cleverly made to invoke fear and anticipation, making the audience feel the rising fear the characters feel.

Although there are some bloody scenes, it’s not too gory. Normally, I despise gory horror films because they don’t have a real plot, but rather the creators of the film put as much blood and gore as they can and call it a movie (like Friday the 13th). It has excellent themes about friendship and overcoming fears, which allows the audience to perceive the underlying message and purpose of this movie.

My favorite scene is when Bill realizes that It’s illusions weren’t real, causing It to stop terrorizing Eddie for a moment and ask “This isn’t real enough for you, Billy? I’m not real enough for you? It was real enough for Georgie.” This gave me goosebumps. For a moment, I kind of felt bad for Pennywise…until his last sentence and when he starts attacking them.

Additionally, I thought it was clever to have daylight scenes rather than basic night-time themes because it made it more realistic in that it could happen at any time, invoking more fear in the audience.

There was never a dry moment during the movie. The scenes built on each other. There was thrill with a few moments of much needed comic relief.

Watching the characters all develop and conquer their fears was spin-chillingly thrilling. The scene when they are all fighting It, as It forms each of the children’s fears, was a beautiful scene. Children are often seen as weaker and less than others, but they are the ones that see things that no one else can see. That’s what this movie captures, and that’s what I love about this movie. The children—the outsiders, the losers— were the ones that were fearless enough to take charge.

Recommend: YES

I would definitely recommend watching this movie. Even though most people dislike horror movies, and there are a decent amount of cover-your-eyes moments, the themes make it worth watching even if you don’t like horror movies in general.

  1. Admittedly, I am 0/10 a fan of scary tv shows and movies, but your review may have changed my mind about seeing It. The film seems truly well done and intriguing. Also, I really like how your blog is categorized and set up. One recommendation I would have is to try to add a menu, link, or some other way to navigate and find the latest posts without having to search each category for the most recent date.

  2. I LOVE horror movies, so when I read “Spoiler Alert” I had to stop reading because I haven’t gotten to see “It” yet. But I can still say that I love this blog post idea. It is super fun and very organized and structured well.

  3. I love this post! This wasn’t just a dry movie review, but you gave some of your own insight which I really appreciated. I really liked the way you explained how the movie was a horror movie rather than just saying it was scary!
