Review: [SPOILERS ALERT]

Why is this my favorite horror film? Not only is it because the main character’s name is Rachel, making the movie more real for me personally, but also because the plot is cleverly woven together. It’s a horror film, and the mystery keeps the anticipation continuous while the audience is continuously terrified. There’s not basic jump scares. This film is a mystery that keeps you on edge while being completely terrified constantly.

Additionally, every image shown in the video tape connects with the plot— the horses eyes, the lighthouse, the woman in the mirror, the ladder, a girl who comes out of a well, out of the tv, etc. It was the story of the little girl, what happened to her, and why she haunts people who watch the video.

The most spin-chilling moment in the film was when Rachel eventually finds the original well where the girl emerges. A hand makes her fall in, which causes her to have a vision where she discovers that the girl was pushed into the well by her adopted mother and survived for seven days before she died. Afterwards, the little girl’s body floats to the surface.

My favorite exact moment was when Rachel is at the bottom of the well, and the well begins to close. That image is ‘the ring.’ Everything connects together.

There’s no real closure in this movie. I know there are sequels, but I don’t believe they are any good, so I haven’t watched them. I don’t love the idea that even though Rachel gave that girl peace, she still haunts people. It’s just not complete. Other than this tiny flaw, I love this movie.

Recommend: YES

Of course I recommend this movie for horror movie lovers only. It is truly disturbing, and if you have a tv in your room, this movie will ruin it for you.
