My name is Tyler Gilbert and I am currently enrolled at Penn State pursuing a Public Relations degree with a hopeful business minor. I had heard good things about this course which is why i chose to take it. Personally, I have never been the type of student that enjoys taking any course that is made up of science or math. However, from what I have heard about this course there were many other components that made up the course. I think it will be a great way to incorporate Science knowledge in many things that are interesting to me/prominent things going on in the world.
For instance, one thing stuck out in my mind that is science related and is a very popular at the time: sarin gas use in Syria. I always new that sarin was an obvious threat to human health if used in that manner but i wanted to know more about it. After reading about it, it is shocking to me just how dangerous sarin gas is. The senseless gas is only detectable after it has been used so there is no way of preventing it unless the source is constrained. I find that this gas is more powerful than any other nuclear weapon due to this. If used by the wrong hands, a population could easily be wiped which is a very scary thing to imagine. However, the United States has a serious question on their hands about whether or not Syria used this gas. The answer of the question could possibly send more U.S troops over seas.
I am looking forward to reading and posting interesting topics in this blog and gathering feedback from the rest of you. Hope to have a good semester
Tyler,
I love your picture which is what made me stop to read your article which proved to be one of the best decisions of my life! After getting through who you were I really became interested in this dangerous sarin gas. Ive never even heard of that, let alone Syria? Anywho, your mentioning brought about a great deal of curiosity so I did a little research.

^^check that out, great read, taught me a lot. Maybe I’m already beginning to appreciate science and the power it has sometimes. Oh and how rediculous of me! Syria is right next to Iraq and all those radical countries! Scary thought to put Sarin gas in the mix

Tyler,
I really enjoyed reading your first blog post and couldn’t help but notice that the picture you posted was of Pittsburgh! I am also from the ‘city of champions’ (lol) and enjoy residing there. Maybe we can meet to discuss some of our favorite aspects of our hometown. As for the content of your post, the current situation in Syria intrigues me as well. I wonder if the United States will take action and who knows what this could escalate into. It is a very interesting story considering the complexity of it all. This article was very interesting to me and maybe you could read it if you have some spare time to further educate yourself on the situation ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-23927399 ). I hope you have a great semester!

I too am pursuing a public relations major, and generally disliked science and math classes back in my high school – we have that in common. As for sarin gas, I had never known the specifics of the chemical warfare controversy overseas, but it’s an interesting topic and one more deserving of attention.
