New York Fashion Week (sponsored by Mercedes-Benz)….. obviously located in NYC is my favorite week of the year. Unfortunately I was not able to attend this year due to that fact that this year i’m here doing homework at Penn State… Nonetheless due to today’s technology I am able to view every fashion show being presented via the internet through live streams!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with what it is, it is one week(ish) in NYC when designers from all over the world come together and show their collections for the upcoming season. From Chanel to Versace to Burberry everyone and everything is there.
The very first fashion week in the the world was held in New York City (1943), but at the time it was not called fashion week it was called “press week”. Over time the names have evolved but today as of now it is known as New York Fashion Week. The main purpose of the weekly event that happens every year was to attract attention and steer it away from the French during World War II because those who were a part of the fashion industry in France were not able to commute to Paris due to the chaos of the war.
It is very hard to attend these fashions shows, most (and the best ones) are invite only unless you work in the fashion industry, are a celebrity or work for the press. Before the recession designers would spend on average 750,000$ per show! But now they are trying a new approach some designers are using mannequins instead of models.. smart right?
P.S. Eden Miller will be the first ever plus size line to show at fashion week this year! Make sure to check it out here!
I’m confused as to what I’m supposed to take away from this…you have a throwaway line about internet streaming and then proceed to talk about fashion shows for the rest of the blog. What does this have to do with science?
